The head of Nigeria's Anti-Drug Agency, NDLEA, General Buba Marwa, said that they have arrested some prominent politicians with this bad habit.
Buba Marwa said this when he was explaining the plan of the Nigerian Parliament to approve the law to test politicians for drugs before running for office or holding any office.
In his conversation with the BBC, Buba Marwa said that they are doing this because they have arrested prominent politicians who are dealing with such illegal drugs, which is not a good thing.
Now it is not a law but in the future it will be a law, because our committee of the Nigerian Parliament has submitted a proposal to request it officially, and it will be done soon.
"We are not the first to introduce this law. Kano State has already started drug testing for all government officials, and this type of action will be expanded across the country," said Marwa.
Dealing with illegal drugs is one of the main things that Nigeria is facing in recent years.
Something that Buba Marwa said they have been able to prevent in the two years he has been carrying out his duties as the head of NDLEA.
"We seized about 5,700 tons of illegal drugs which would have been a big problem if they had reached their destination in this country.
"If you have the drinks, you can drink what you want. We have stopped the importation of these products, something we are proud of.
Buba Marwa said that in the work of the NDLEA, there is help to drug addicts who are addicted to alcohol, to bring them back to their senses.
"There are hospitals that we have where we take them to receive special care, and more than nineteen thousand 19,000 people have been treated for this work.
"We arrested more than three thousand drug dealers where they were brought to trial and sent to prison.
"We have arrested more than 34 drug dealers, which has greatly reduced the circulation of drugs in Nigeria," said Buba.
The President of the NDLEA added that the cooperation is given to them by President Muhammadu Buhari, and the courage of the small workers seem to have led them to this success.
