Al-Qalam University in Katsina state has declared that it owes the government of Kano 38 million naira for school fees.
The president of the university, Professor Asiru Musa-Yauri, announced this on Thursday while meeting the press in Katsina town.
Musa-Yauri said that the University's debt to the Kano government exceeded 52 million naira.
The professor said that the university is suffering from the problem of lack of funds due to the low school fees paid by the university.
"Until now, we are listening to the Kano government to pay the tuition fees of some students from the state that it has sponsored in this University.
“We are calling on Nigerians to help the University in calling and begging the Kano State Government to pay the University the money it owes.
Musa-Yauri called on the government that sympathized with the University to pay these fees considering how the university is currently facing financial problems.
He said that the money that the government will pay will help to improve the activities of the University.
The Kano State Commissioner for Education Mariya Mahmoud-Bunkure said she is not aware of any debt owed to the state government.
Mariya said that a few days ago she discussed with the University on how the government will pay these fees after their meeting and sent the report of what they discussed with the University to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and she has not heard from him yet. already.
