Tuesday INEC Expects To Receive Salvation Funds From CBN - Okoye
The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated that it is confident of receiving the funds promised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The funds are those that will be paid to some transportation or transportation workers that sending money to their bank account will be difficult, waste of time, or maybe they don't even have a bank account at all.
The Commissioner and Chief Public Information Officer of the agency, Festus Okoye, told reporters this on Sunday.
INEC has asked the CBN to provide the agency with cash that will pay for the services it will pay for directly, not through 'retransfer'.
When Okoye was asked when INEC will receive the money from the CBN, he said, "We expect that we will solve all the payment problems from Tuesday, February 21."
Okoye said he was witnessing riots and arson in some towns because lack of funds would not stop people from going out to vote.
He said that INEC is fully prepared to conduct an honest and fair election, and that the security forces have also made their plans to provide good security during the election and when the election results are collected and when the election results are announced.
Two weeks ago, the Chairman of INEC paid a visit to the CBN Headquarters, where the Governor of the bank, Godwin Emefiele, cleared his doubts about the receipt of funds for the severance of election workers.
During the visit, the CBN told the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, that the change in currency color will not affect the 2023 elections.
He said the CBN will provide INEC with all the funds required by the agency during the February 25 and March 11, 2023 elections.
Emefiele told Yakubu that the CBN always supports INEC in all aspects to ensure that it carries out the work assigned to the agent successfully.
He said: "We are participating in INEC's operations to store and store election materials, even using CBN armored vehicles to distribute election materials.
"We are happy to say that in this good relationship between CBN and INEC, we have never hindered INEC or troubled the accountants. That is why you did not run away from us, now you have come back to us in this election. .
"If the Chairman of INEC will remember, when I visited you earlier, you asked how the CBN will provide INEC with foreign funds to purchase the Voter Registration Verification Machine (BVAS), and other electoral equipment. I assure you that it will be produced, and produced.
"Therefore, the CBN will not allow it to be used to disrupt the 2023 elections.
"So I assure you that if you need bills to pay for the transport vehicles after you have paid through the transfer, then CBN is ready to give."
Earlier, Yakubu asked for the cooperation of the CBN to ensure the success of the 2023 elections, especially in light of the prospect of a lack of funds close to the elections.
Yakubu said that INEC has made preparations to ensure that the 2023 election is an authentic election that has never been done before in Nigeria.
