2023 Election: ANA Congratulates Tinubu, Warns Obasanjo Against Democracy
The Northern New Agenda, ANA, on Wednesday, warned former President Olusegun Obasanjo not to stir up conflict in the country with his statements and calls for the cancellation of the February 25 presidential election.
ANA, which is an organization of the unity of the North, under its leader, Senator Ahmad Abubakar Moallahydi, during the press conference held to calm the situation after the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 election conducted by INEC, call on Nigerians to support the elected president and ignore the call for conflict.
Moallahydi said there was no need for the press conference called by Obasanjo and should be ignored, Vanguard reports.
He also said that INEC conducted a fair election where he gave the example of Lagos, Kano, Plateau, Nasarawa, Gombe, Katsina, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Kaduna and Yobe states where the opposition parties won.
He said: "ANA, on behalf of the people of the north who came out and elected the honorable Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we congratulate Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the elected President of the Federation of Nigeria.
"This is a victory for Nigeria. Considering the unity of the country, we hope to see a new Nigeria and we call on other citizens to come and unite and support the incoming government to make the country better."
ANA's response to Obasanjo
"Similarly, we are trying to respond to some people who have their own needs whose words are against the peace process, especially former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
"We have read the statement issued by Obasanjo calling on the Chairman of INEC to obey some of the ideas (Obasanjo) which as expected spread in town as we believe that is his intention; in it he expressed his opinion on how He wants the national elections to be held in 2023. people looked at things from different perspectives based on their political and personal views.
"The most important thing is the person who raised the issue; let me clarify something: he was president twice under democracy (1999-2007); and he is a retired general (who did not fight) and an elder. He deserves it and we respect him."
He continued: "But, we have distanced ourselves from his desire to inflame regional, ethnic and sectarianism.
"We are reminding him of his attempt to suppress democracy, like trying to win a third term which Nigerians predicted, to this day it is abhorrent.
"His position in the statement further deepened the understanding of the hypocrisy that surrounds his kind of politics; he easily forgot that he told the country to refrain from partisan politics - the drums of war should not be heard from behind his house."
"Our warning to him is that he understands the limits of his business politics. There is no problem when he benefits from the north but now and then he is angry and frustrated because it is not his issue. This is not good for you, it is not always possible not."
ANA has called on Nigerians to distance themselves from Obasanjo's message ANA has called on Nigerians to distance themselves from the press release issued by former President Obasanjo because he is trying to weaken our democracy by our people to the service since INEC released the 2023 election rules, calling on all those who have complaints to follow the procedure provided by the law.
Finally, the group called on the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, to address Nigerians to reassure them as he promised.
The group also encouraged the Chairman of INEC to be patient in doing the great job he has for the country.
