51,828 members of Boko Haram surrendered, General Irabor said
About 51,828 Boko Haram members surrendered to the Nigerian military between July 2021 and May 2022.
The Chief of Defense Staff of Nigeria, General Lucky Irabor said this while presenting an essay at the University of Edo, saying that 13 thousand 360 Boko Haram members are fighters.
The Chief of the Nigerian Defense Forces also added that 1,543 of the converted Boko Haram fighters completed the rehabilitation session at the Mallam Sidi camp between 2016 and 2022, while 1,935 were converted at the Bulumbuktu camp.
According to him, the Nigerian army has achieved a series of victories in their war against the Boko Haram fighters, and they have been defeated from their hideouts.
However, Irabor said that Operation Safe Corridor has faced many challenges during the fight against Boko Haram, including a lack of supplies, training, and international support.
Thousands of people have lost their lives as a result of the Boko Haram conflict in North-Eastern Nigeria, while millions have been displaced from their homes.
