Bauchi: 7,806 people were diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2022
Bauchi State will have 7,806 people infected with tuberculosis in 2022, Dr. Sani Mohammad, the Secretary General of the AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria Commission said yesterday in Bauchi.
He stated this at a press conference to celebrate World Tuberculosis Day 2023.
Mohammed represented the health commissioner, Dr. Sabiu Gwalabe, at the press conference.
He said the number increased by 2,154 more than the 5,652 achieved in 2021.
The World Health Organization, WHO has set aside March 24 to celebrate World Tuberculosis Day every year, to raise awareness about tuberculosis and efforts to end it worldwide.
He also said that the number in 2022, which is about 53 percent of the increase in the level of the disease on 2021 is the highest in the state.
“Of the 5,518 people who will go to treatment in 2022, about 5,192; that is, 94 percent were successfully treated at the end of the year.
"Currently, Bauchi state has 794 free tuberculosis treatment centers, 127 research centers and 15 GeneXperts," he said.
