Donielle Nash Tells What Her Mom Niecy Nash Taught Her About Acting
Donielle Nash is becoming well-known. Some people know her as the daughter of Emmy-nominated actor Niecy Nash, but the 27-year-old rising star has also been in two Mindy Kaling-produced shows, "The Sex Lives of College Girls" and "Never Have I Ever," and she recently appeared in episode of her mom's new crime drama show, "The Rookie: Feds." She wants to keep going in the same direction.
Nash's mother was one reason she wanted to be an actress, but Raven-Symoné was also an important figure in her life. She told POPSUGAR, "I wanted to change my name to Raven." "He played the white tears card?" Willows responds, and Jayla says, "If I had a dollar for every time that happened, I'd only have 63 cents because Black women make a lot less on the dollar." Nash hopes that if Jayla is brought back for the show's third season, she will be able to keep breaking down similar small slights in a funny way. "I don't know what the plan is, but if you need a few laughs, I'm here," she says as a hint.
In season three, Nash also wants Whitney to get the justice she deserves after that crazy finale twist, where she catches Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) kissing her ex-boyfriend, Canaan (Christopher Meyer). Nash jokes, "I'm not in the writer's room, so I don't know how it's going to go, but I wouldn't mind if Whitney slapped Kimberly and got her man back."
Nash wants to be the star of her own sitcom, but she isn't afraid to try out dramatic roles. Take her cameo on the first season of "The Rookie: Feds." As Pamela, the murder victim's roommate, she talks about the suspected killer with FBI agents, including Niecy, who plays one of the agents. She said that acting with her mum was like being on a cooking show where Gordon Ramsay was the judge. "It was a lot to worry about. It was a lot, but she was very kind and helpful "She also says that Niecy helped her choose which audition tape to send in and taught her how to cry on camera.
Niecy has also given Donielle wise advice that she has turned to when she has doubts about herself. "She always tells me to believe in my gift," Nash says. "I tend to think too much, so if I do something and everyone says, "That was great, that was so good," but I say, "I don't think so. I don't think it's something I should do again.
