New naira: The CBN denies a report that Aisha Buhari posted on her Instagram page.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has disproved a supposed press release that First Lady Aisha Buhari posted on her Instagram page.

In the release that was posted on Aisha's page on Tuesday, it was said that the old N500 and N1000 notes should be accepted as money for the next 70 days, until May 1, 2023.

The CBN sent out another press release, calling the one Aisha sent out "fake news" to show that the news was not true.

The CBN said, "For the avoidance of doubt, and in line with Mr. President's broadcast on February 16, 2023, the CBN has been told to ONLY reissue and recirculate the old N200 banknotes. This is expected to circulate as legal tender for 60 days, until April 10, 2023."

So, people should not trust any message or piece of information about this topic that hasn't been officially released by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Media workers are asked to PLEASE check any information with the right sources before putting it out there.

The "fake" release was still on Aisha Buhari's page when this report was written.
