The beginning of P-Square may be traced back to a little Catholic school in Jos, Nigeria is known as St. Murumba College. Peter and Paul, who are identical twins, joined the music and drama club at their school, where they began performing MC Hammer, Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson songs by singing, dancing, and mimicking the artists' moves.
After that, they became members of a cappella quartet known as "MMMPP" (M Clef a.k.a Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter, and Paul). They got their start in break dancing in 1997 when they formed the group that would later be known as "Smooth Criminals." They got their inspiration for break dancing from their favorite musician, Michael Jackson. They removed M Clef from the group "MMMPP," which would subsequently become known as "MMPP." As a result of their creative ability and well-rehearsed dance routine, they quickly became well-known figures in the city of Jos, where they performed at a variety of school celebrations and other events. In the latter half of 1999, Peter and Paul enrolled once more in music classes with the intention of honing their abilities on the piano, drums, bass, and rhythm guitar. Their work may be heard in the films Tobi, Mama Sunday, Moment of Bitterness, and Evas River, amongst others, providing the soundtracks for those movies. They submitted their application to the University of Abuja during that same year, 1999, in order to pursue Business Administration. The Smooth Criminals were no longer a cohesive unit when its members dispersed to attend schools in a variety of different locations. After that, Peter and Paul established their own group, which was alternately referred to as the
Double P”, “P&P”, and “Da Pees”, until they eventually settled on “P Square”.
They are under the direction of Bayo Odusami, also known as Howie T, an experienced concert promoter who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Adrot Nigeria Limited. P-Square became the first group to win the "Grab Da Mic" competition in 2001. As a result, Benson & Hedges became a sponsor of their debut album, which was titled Last Nite and was distributed by the Timbuk2 music company. Three months following the publication of their debut album, P-Square was nominated for "Most Promising African Group" in the Kora Awards. These awards were given out across Africa. They were ultimately victorious, taking home the Amen Award in 2003 for "Best R&B Group." P Square issued their second studio album, titled Get Squared, on their own record label, Square Records, in the year 2005. TJoe Enterprises was in charge of the album's distribution across the country, but Howie T of Adroit Nigeria Ltd continued to serve as the band's manager. During a period of four consecutive weeks, the music video for the second album was ranked number one on the MTV Base chart. They have a fan base that is constantly expanding over the entirety of South Africa, with a particular bastion of rabid supporters in the city of Cape Town. Presently, the members of P Square may be found in the city of Lagos. Game Over, which was released before the end of 2007, is now their album with the most sales. It has achieved global sales of 8 million copies. Danger was the title of P-fourth Square's studio album, which was released in 2009. This album comprises songs that were co-written with artists such as 2face Idibia, J Martins, and Frenzy. The first single, titled "Danger," is a hip-hop song that sounds very much like an Eminem song. It features cutting synths and a frog bass baseline as its foundation. Clowns and jerky gestures in front of the camera, typical of Eminem's most comedic music videos, appear in the music video to provide further evidence of this assertion.

P-Square was awarded the title of Artist of the Year at the KORA All Africa Music Awards on April 4, 2010, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, while they were in London for a concert at the Troxy. Because of the band's propensity to sample western music and other famous tunes on their CDs, they have been involved in a number of contentious debates. They have discussed the matter a number of times, both in interviews and in the lyrics to their songs, which they have released. In a more technical sense, what P Square does is more along the lines of reconstructing the drum patterns, chord progressions, or lyrics of the sampled songs, as opposed to actually ripping bits of the sampled songs and directly sampling them into their production. This explains why their sound is predominately composed of electronic elements. According to a source on a news website called vanguardngr.com, the information appears to have incited anger, as Peter instantly responded by saying, "I don't know why anytime a foreign musician comes to Nigeria, they (show organizers) want to treat us like slaves in our country." Despite the fact that they completed their performance at first, they became angry about halfway through and threw their mics to the ground before storming off the stage and shouting, "We're done here."
"They don't want 2face to come on stage, so we have no choice but to leave." It was reported that they departed the venue of the show as soon as it began, but the organizers of the show convinced them to return so that they could play on stage with 2face later on; nonetheless, they were forced to apologize to the audience after their appearance.
