Schools will reopen in Tigray region after three years
The initiative to restore schools in the Tigray area of northern Ethiopia has started after three years of strife.
Several schools were destroyed and some of their property was stolen during the Civil War.
According to the human rights organization Human Rights Watch, the fighting in the Tigray area damaged 25% of the region's schools in 2021.
Additionally, local teachers have gone two years without receiving payment.
Unicef informed the BBC that although they were considering launching the study in the middle of April, no agreement had yet been reached.
The entirety of Tigray's educational system has been decimated. There have been around 2.3 million kids who have skipped school since July of last year.
