Security personnel and demonstrators fought in Senegal.
On Thursday, protesters and police battled in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, as opposition leader Ousmane Sonko appeared in court.
Ousmane Sonko is accused of defaming a minister, and the outcome of the case will determine whether he can run for president in February of the following year.
Sanko's supporters claimed that President Macky Sall utilized the legal system to impede him in the next elections; the president has refuted this claim. Sanko has already announced his candidacy for president in the 2024 election.
The lawmaker is also accused of rape and of making threats against his life.
On the streets next to the court, his supporters flung stones at him.
A photographer for the AFP newspaper claimed that he prefers young people to hurl a security force's automobile in the nation's capital.
At a supermarket, smoke was also observed billowing in the atmosphere.
