The court rejected Abba Kyari's request

The former head of the Nigerian Police Force's intelligence collecting division, Abba Kyari, petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to throw out the accusations against him, but the court rejected his motion.

Judge Emeka Nwite denied Abba Kyari's appeal at the court session on Wednesday, stating that the constitution and the law give the court the authority to consider instances involving drug trading. They gave her an opportunity once she founded the NDLEA.

Abba Kyari testified in court that the NDLEA hastily brought him before the judge before the investigation was finished and that the organization ought to have allowed the police the chance to conduct an internal inquiry first.

He continued by saying that the police looked into the situation and sent the department of police an internal report.

He will only be taken before the court after the police have finished their investigation, the police officer stated.

He added that according to the Police Act, the National Police Service Commission has the same authority as the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate and sanction police officers.

But according to the court's judgment, the police commission's power was equal to that of the federal court.

Kyari, a deputy police commissioner, and four other members of the same unit are accused of plotting to smuggle 17.55 kilograms of drugs.
