The United States will support Tanzania with $500 million
The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, praised Tanzania for the changes it has brought that are necessary to strengthen the country's democracy.
Ms Harris is in Tanzania to continue her visit to Africa after starting in Ghana, where she will finish her visit at the weekend in Zambia.
Ms Harris was given a warm welcome by singing and performing various cultural dances.
The President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, described the visit as a great development for the country.
Ms Harris said the United States would give Tanzania $560m in aid to boost its business and strengthen democracy.
It is unusual for a high-ranking official of the US government to visit the country, and many see the visit as a show of support for Samia's reforms.
Since taking power after the death of President John Magufuli two years ago, Samia has lifted the ban on opposition campaigning and strengthened freedom of the press. Politicians who went to seek asylum have all returned home.
