We are Investigating Two Government Ministries on Allegations of Corruption, According to the EFCC Abdulrasheed Bawa
The Anti-Corruption Commission (EFCC) has said that it has completed plans to arrest some governors whose terms of office are being protected by those suspected of corruption, as well as some corrupt government officials after the transfer of power on May 29.
The head of the agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said this on Thursday while talking to Daily Trust.
However, Bawa did not reveal the names or the number of those they are planning to arrest once they are in power.
In Nigeria, governors are among the government officials who have immunity that prevents them from being arrested when they are in power.
The Chairman of the EFCC said that there are two government ministries that the agency is currently investigating because of their illegal activities.
According to him, in one of the ministries, there was an N4bn embezzlement of some 20 contracts.
Bawa said, "Right now, we are investigating two ministries where the money has been paid twice."
"These are contracts that have been made since 2018, and then some strong people came forward and explained the issue.
He said that fake documents were published in the ministries, and with the cooperation of other employees, fake documents were created and paid for.
Bawa said that as long as government affairs are modernized, there will be no such scandals.
