We are sticking to Buhari's order to change the Naira, says the CBN in response to a post on Aisha's page.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, or CBN, has said that a press release that was shared on the Instagram account of Aisha Buhari, who is married to the President, was not from the bank.

In the news release that Aisha posted on her page on Tuesday, it was said that the old N500 and N1000 naira notes should be accepted as currency until May 1, 2023.

But the CBN sent out another press release saying that the one posted on Aisha's page was "fake news."

"CBN Sticks to Presidential Directive to Reissue Only 200 Naira Old Banknotes," read part of the statement. The Central Bank of Nigeria has heard about an FAKE PRESS RELEASE that says President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the re-issuance and release of old N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender in the country. For clarity, and in line with Mr. President's broadcast on February 16, 2023, the CBN has been told to ONLY reissue and recirculate the old N200 banknotes, which will be legal tender for 60 days, until April 10, 2023.

"This means that the public shouldn't pay attention to any message or information that hasn't been officially released by the Central Bank of Nigeria."

At the time this report was written, the "fake" release was still on Aisha Buhari's account, says DAILY POST.
