 Buhari Presents the Data Protection Bill in Parliament

 President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to approve a bill on the protection of public information that the executive branch of the federal government has presented in Parliament.

 As the law of the land provides in section 58 paragraph 2 of the constitution of Nigeria which was amended in 1999.

 The President expressed this request in a letter he sent to the Parliament which was read at the meeting of the Parliament on Tuesday.

 In the letter, the President said, "I have presented this bill for the protection of important information of Nigeria before this Parliament so that it can study it and confirm it as a law."

 The purpose of this law is to protect the rights of citizens as it affects their expression as provided by the constitution of Nigeria.

 

 The purpose of the law is to provide a framework for the protection of public information and to establish the Nigerian Public Information Commission to oversee public information laws.

 Among some of the important aspects of the law, there is the issue of how to manage the disclosure of people, improving the system of how to manage the disclosure of people in a way that will protect the security of their disclosure and provide privacy to the information holders and ensure important statements were dealt with fairly, through the law.

 In addition to that, the law will help to protect people's information and to have something reliable if there is a conflict in people's information, ensuring that the data controllers are fair to people regarding their information.

 If we don't forget, in 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari gave his consent to the establishment of an important information management center headed by Dr. Vincent Olatunji as a commissioner to ensure that Nigeria's important information protection system is followed.
