Investments should be doubled to eradicate Malaria - WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on the world to double its funding to fight malaria in order to eradicate it.
WHO said that 96 percent of the 619,000 people who died as a result of the disease in 2021 are in Africa.
In her message on World Malaria Day, the director of the agency in charge of Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, said that malaria is spreading six to 20 times faster than other diseases in areas where the disease is more common.
The United Nations set aside April 25 every year to strengthen how to fight Malaria in the world.
Dr. Moeti said that the efforts made have helped to reduce the number of people dying from the disease in Africa from 2000 to 2021.
She said at least 28 African countries have expressed their interest in introducing the malaria vaccine.
