One person was killed in the conflict in Gwarimpa

The police in the capital city of Abuja have confirmed the death of one person in a conflict that broke out in Gwarimpa area.

Abuja police spokeswoman SP Josephine Ade told the BBC that the conflict broke out between two tribes living in an area called Gwarimpa village.

Sources say that the riots started on Saturday after the Gbagyi tribe tried to evict some who they suspect are selling drugs in the area.

Police said the victim was a 20-year-old man and died of his injuries on Sunday.

They said that the conflict started again on Monday morning, after the Hausas learned of the death of their brother who was taken to the hospital due to his injuries, although they tried, according to Josephine, they managed to control the situation.

She said that the rumors that Fulani herdsmen attacked Gwarimpa area in Abuja are not true.

Some media outlets reported that the inter-ethnic fighting had left three people dead, an allegation that a police spokeswoman said was also unfounded.
