A court in the city of Busan, South Korea, on Wednesday sentenced some employees of the Liberian Shipping Authority to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting two young women. .
Moses Owen Brown and Daniel Tarr have been detained in South Korea since last year, on suspicion of raping young women, as the country's police said.
The Liberian government said it has asked its legal representatives in South Korea to provide it with an available appeal option.
"The administration will continue to engage with the Republic of Korea through official diplomacy to provide options for Browne and Tarr," the administration said in a statement.
She said the families of the two Liberian citizens have been informed of the court's decision, and they will be allowed to visit the people.
