The president of Iraq is visiting Iran

On a one-day trip to the country, Abdul Latif Rashid, the President of Iraq, went to Tehran.

IRNA, Iran's news service, said that the president was there with his wife.

Ehsan Khandozi, Iran's Minister of Commerce, met the President of Iraq at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. Ansieh Khazali, Iran's Special Assistant to the President for Women's Affairs, met the President of Iraq.

Since he became president of Iraq in October of last year, this is the first time Mr. Rashid has been to Iran.

There is a good chance that the two leaders will talk about energy exports and other routes.

Iraq says it can't pay its debts because it has money troubles and because the United States has put sanctions on Iranian banks.
