APC supported Akpabio as the President of the Senate and Barau I Jibril as his deputy.

 The Senator representing Borno South, Senator Ali Ndume, and Senator Barau Jibrin from Kano State, withdrew from the Senate President's race.

 The leading senators of the ruling party, the APC, resigned from the contest shortly after Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State withdrew and supported Godwill Akpabio.

 At a meeting held at the Ebonyi governor's house in Abuja, Umahi said he has resigned from the contest and has gone back to the candidate chosen by the APC as the candidate of interest, as reported by The Cable.

 The Legit Hausa report also said that Tinubu and the APC agreed that Akpabio should be the Speaker of the Senate, Barau Jibrin as his deputy.

 Confirming his withdrawal, Senator Ndume said he will lead the campaign for the election of Akpabio as the President of the 10th Senate to be sworn in in June.

 The Tribune quoted Ndume as saying: "I did not just withdraw from the contest, I will lead Akpabio's election campaign because he has the support of the president-elect and we felt that we surrendered for the sake of the party."

 "Asiwaju said that I should lead Akpabio's campaign. You have seen how he has become famous. Therefore, we are behind the ticket of Akpabio and Barau."

 In response, Akpabio further thanked his colleagues for supporting his ambition to become the President of the Senate with his deputy Barau Jibrin from Kano state.
