SUDAN CRISIS: Nigerian Students Will Start Returning Home This Week
Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, told Voice of America that it is now illegal to send children home during this week.
Since the 15th of this month, a war has been going on in Sudan. This has affected everyone who lives there, especially students who have come from countries that are also at war, like Nigeria. After the money was sent, people tried to find where the kids were. Then, trucks took the students to a safe hill where they could wait for their trip back to Nigeria.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, said that the delay has been caused by the fact that Sudan does not have banks that can send money. and money directly, so there is a person who is trusted, or a money changer, who is willing to take a lot of money and give it to the people in charge of getting cars.
Sani says that there are about 13 trucks and that each one will get a payment of 30,000 US dollars. Since the amount of money and the way it was sent added to the delay, the number of trucks and the way the money was sent were also factors.
When asked about the students' condition on Sunday after they had been held in a university for five days, Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo said that President Muhammadu Buhari stepped in and got permission to take them to Egypt, where a C130 plane is waiting to take them home.
Sani said that his ministry has a way to make sure that the students are sent back as soon as possible, so that both they and their parents can relax. Sani says that, with God's help, they will get every kid home safely.
A Nigerian and a Sudanese student who is trying to save Abdulazeez Abubakar Abdullahi have reported that more than 1,000 students have left the African University for the Egyptian border.
Abdulazeez says that they stayed at this African University for five days before being sent back to the border of Egypt.
