Regina Daniels, a Nigerian actress, has said that Nollywood is a "dangerous place" for young girls, accusing some superstars of partaking in child labour.
The 22-year-old director stated this in an Instagram video posted on Monday, noting that she was fortunate to have a mother who safeguarded her in the early stages of her profession.
"Nollywood is a very dangerous place for young girls," she remarked. I know because I was there.
"But I was fortunate to have a very strong mother, a mother who was always on my neck, a mother who was feared by many people."They knew it was Mama Regina's daughter, so they gave me plenty of room."
She also described meeting a 14-year-old girl on-site who worked as a cosmetics artist for free.
According to the actress, the little child revealed details about working with "different celebrities/crew members and sleeping in different hotels."
She went on to say that she was able to enrol her in "one of the best schools in Delta."
"I'm just wondering if those celebrities are insane." Regina inquired.
"I'll leave crew members aside because some crew members deceive young girls and then take advantage of them."But these celebs understand what it's like to work in the industry and what they've been through...
"There will be many people who will want to take advantage of you; it is only by the grace of God that you will meet some straightforward people who will help you."
The actress went on to urge celebrities not to support child employment but rather to assist children.
"You know there are producers and crew members who want to sleep with these girls all the time; if you see them, send them away or please help them," she urged.
"I've told myself that if I go to another production and see a young girl trying to work, I'm going to fight the producer."
