Education is one of the best legacies to leave to people, communities, and society even if it requires a long-term investment and a long gestation time, as all parents and guardians readily concede. Shell Nigeria has held this viewpoint since 1952.
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited managed Joint Venture (SPDC JV) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) invested over $5.9 million (N1.78 billion) in scholarships in 2018.

Scholarship for graduate study 2022 Postgraduate Scholarship for the Niger Delta
The SPDC Joint Venture operator, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), is pleased to announce the ninth annual NNPC/SPDC_JV Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship for applicants from the states of Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, and Rivers.
The goal of the scholarship project is to give qualified students from these Niger Delta states access to postgraduate study opportunities in fields related to the oil and gas industry.
100 students have won full scholarships to study at prestigious UK universities during the course of the program's ten-year history.
SPDC will grant scholarships for one-year post-graduate M.Sc. studies for the academic year beginning in September 2021 in collaboration with Imperial College London, the University of Leeds, and the University of Aberdeen.
These courses are eligible for scholarships at the three institutions:

Eligibility requirements
Those who wish to apply for the scholarship must;
Demonstrate your capacity for both leadership and intellect
Have a sufficient level of English (IELTS score of at least 6.5) and satisfy the college's language requirement.
Have been given the opportunity to enroll in one of the College's eligible courses after applying using the standard application procedure.
Currently hold (or anticipate holding by the time you accept the Scholarship) a degree that is on par with an Upper Second Class Honours degree in the United Kingdom.
By September 2021, the National Youth Service must be finished.
Have not previously had the opportunity to study in the UK or another developed country; Be a regular resident of Rivers, Imo, Delta, or Bayelsa State of Nigeria; Have the intention of returning to Nigeria after the study time.

Possess a Nigerian passport that is valid through December 2021.
No one employed by SPDC, the Royal Dutch SHELL Group of Companies, the College, or an immediate family member of an employee will be allowed to apply for the scholarships.
Fill out an application for admission to any of the participating universities for any of the required courses.
Following an official offer of admission from the university, application forms for the scholarship will ONLY be made accessible online through the websites of Imperial College London, the University of Leeds, and the University of Aberdeen.
The institutions will review the submissions and choose applicants who will meet with SPDC for interviews before being taken into consideration for the final selection.
Prior to March 22, 2023, completed scholarship application forms must be received by participating universities.
Please be aware that the stipends (living expenses) are based only on the published living rates of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
This scholarship is not binding. It should be noted that NEITHER SPDC NOR ANY SHELL COMPANY IS OBLIGED TO OFFER WORK OF ANY KIND TO ANY CANDIDATE UPON GRADUATION. Likewise, successful candidates are NOT BONDED TO SPDC FOR ANY TIME DUE TO THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD.

Based on the results of the national SSCE and JAMB exams, the applications are narrowed down. This is followed by an aptitude test at the centers in Port-Harcourt, Warri, Enugu, Lagos, and Abuja.
The National Merit Award (NM), which is available to undergraduate students in Nigeria, and the Areas of Operation Merit Award (AOM), which is available to students from Shell Nigeria's operating communities, are the two categories of the scholarship program. The awards in both categories are only open to first-year students.
Every year, Shell Nigeria posts advertisements asking qualified individuals to apply for the scholarships—which are only available at Nigerian universities—and receives an average of 16,000 responses.
Secondary school financial Scholarship
The Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo, and Rivers states' host villages are eligible for the Shell Nigeria Secondary School Scholarship Scheme.
In the seven states, 2,600 post-primary scholarships are given out on average each year. The Secondary School Scholarship Scheme aims to support students financially while also raising academic standards in host areas.
The program, which also provides many parents and guardians with a welcome relief in regards to their children's schooling, has grown to such a level of popularity that thousands of parents and kids each year anticipate it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
In fact, it has emerged as a welcome aspect of educational advancement, particularly in Nigeria's Niger Delta region.
Scholarship from Cradle to Career
A comprehensive scholarship system called the Cradle-to-Career Scholarship offers talented students from underprivileged families the chance to enrol in prestigious secondary institutions in Nigeria.
The Cradle-to-Career program aims to eliminate educational disparities brought on by regional and socioeconomic factors and support Nigeria's overall high literacy rates in the Niger Delta.
The Scholarship Scheme includes two types;
1. Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited (SPDC) oversees the SPDC JV Cradle-to-Career Scholarship program on behalf of the joint venture. Candidates are chosen from the important Niger Delta States of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta, beginning in 2010. Talented students from three hundred fifty (350) high-quality secondary schools are already enrolled.
2. Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) oversees the National Cradle-to-Career Scholarship program on behalf of the NNPC, its co-venture partners, and itself. Each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory submits a list of candidates, and the top three (3) who also meet all other eligibility requirements are chosen to receive the scholarship. With 60 recipients already enrolled in top-notch private secondary schools, the program is in its second year.
The Shell Cradle-to-Career Scholarship in Nigeria has won numerous national and international awards. The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, referred to the program as "a landmark initiative" and highlighted its significant contributions to the advancement of education in the Niger Delta and Nigeria during the 2011 United Nations (UN) Innovations Fair in Geneva.
Shell Scholars
In the 1950s, the Shell scholarship project got its start. Including awards for qualified Nigerians studying in a range of disciplines both inside and outside of Nigeria.
Many of them went back home to take up important positions in government, business, and commerce.
Promoting Academic Excellence in Nigeria: Shell Scholars' Forum
Shell had the foresight to consider future generations of Nigerians who would one day drive the development of the newly independent country as it worked to produce and sell the first barrel of crude oil for Nigeria. The necessary manpower could be quickly trained through the use of scholarship awards.
The Shell scholarship initiative began in the 1950s with awards given to qualified Nigerians for study both inside and outside of Nigeria in a variety of subjects. Some still hold important positions in government, commerce, and business after returning home.
The Shell Scholars' Forum, established in 2013, is designed to give elder beneficiaries a platform to guide the younger ones. Also in 2013, a new Shell education portfolio strategy was introduced.
To "create the intellectual and creative energy necessary for sustained economic performance and Nigeria's global competitiveness" is the goal.
Building scholars, promoting digital transformation, and fostering growth and development in Nigeria are all components of the approach.
Shell won "Best Company in Education" at the 2013 Social Enterprise Report & Awards (SERAs) as a token of appreciation and acknowledgment for its efforts to support high-quality education in Nigeria since the 1950s.

The forum gives the scholars a common venue for networking and relationship-building, giving them the chance to improve SPDC's educational approach in the future and offer communiqués that could have an impact on government education policies. The forum would also provide a venue for influencing the next generation of scholars and addressing the difficulties facing education today.
