Through an immersive curriculum that combines academic, skill-based, and hands-on learning, the Obama Foundation Scholars Program offers rising leaders from the United States and around the world who are already making a difference in their communities the chance to advance their work.

The Obama Foundation Scholars Program application for 2023–2024 is now closed. 

Through the Columbia University and University of Chicago Scholars program, people who have demonstrated a commitment to service can get the resources they need to increase the effectiveness of their efforts, find novel solutions to challenging global issues, and effect change via values-based leadership.

The program creates enduring connections amongst up-and-coming leaders who are dedicated to collaborating to address the most important problems of our day, forming an international network that transcends problems and national boundaries. 

Obama Foundation Scholars will: Go back to work on their global issue of emphasis and carry out their individual action plan to expedite positive change in their neighborhood upon program completion. 

 Get the chance to contribute to the Obama Foundation's mission of empowering, inspiring, and establishing connections amongst emerging leaders worldwide.

About Barack Obama  Scholarship Program 

Throughout the academic year, the Obama Foundation provides the Obama Scholars with a comprehensive curriculum that includes networking opportunities, training, and leadership development. This helps the scholars acquire the practical knowledge, abilities, and experiences they need to increase the impact of their work once they return home. By planning how they would like to reinvest their newfound knowledge, networks, and skills after the program ends, Scholars can benefit from the wealth of knowledge within the Obama Foundation program participants' network as well as insights from high-level leaders from a variety of sectors.

The two Scholar cohorts, based at Columbia and UChicago, are part of the foundation-led activities that aim to establish a larger global community of practice for shared learning, which will help the Scholars expedite their work upon graduation and inform their approach to their own work. With experiences designed to draw on the rich research ecosystems of these two prestigious universities and the cities in which they are located, each cohort offers Scholars in Chicago and New York City one-of-a-kind and immersive learning opportunities.

An orientation program to welcome the cohort to the Obama Foundation community, a mid-program gathering, and a final graduation program to celebrate the cohort's accomplishments and present their action plans are important elements of the Obama Foundation-led experience.

Workshops and Conversations on Leadership Development aimed at enhancing Scholars' capacity to narrate the tale of their work, contemplate and enhance their leadership style, and develop enduring, individual resilience. Scholars engage in discussions with esteemed thought leaders from various industries and learn about creative ideas from the Obama Foundation program participant alumni community through a range of virtual session formats.
