The federal government has agreed to give each state and the Federal capital a 5 billion naira subsidy to ease the pain of removing fuel subsidies.

This decision was reached at a recent meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by the Vice President Kashim Shettima.

During an interview with the press at the Government House in Abuja, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, expressed this important position.

Governor Zulum said the governors will buy 100,000 sacks of rice and 40,000 sacks of maize as well as modern fertilizer to be distributed to the poor and the whole community to reduce the suffering of those suffering from the withdrawal of oil subsidies which has caused the increase in the price of goods in the country.

He also explained the important issues raised during the meeting. Governor Zulum added that the Assembly has unanimously agreed to provide more support to the states bordering the Republic of Niger. The aim is to provide them with more infrastructure, with the aim of managing the flow of refugees from a neighboring country that is suffering from problems related to the coup and the current situation in Niger.

The members of the National Economic Council include the governors of 36 states of the federation, together with the ministers of the federal capital, Abuja, and finance, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the chief executive officer of the National Association of Nigeria.
