 Clashes started between the army and RSF fighters in the city of Port Sudan

Fighting between two opposing factions of the Sudanese army has spread to the city of Port Sudan on the Mediterranean coast for the first time in five months of fighting.

The Sudanese army has exchanged fire with the members of the rebel group of the tribe that calls itself the forces of the coalition of parties and organizations in the east of Sudan.

The army tried to remove the traffic checkpoints set up by the group on Monday in the center of the city.

Port Sudan contains the only airport that works in the country.

The city is also where some government officials and UN agencies have returned as a result of the fighting in the capital, Khartoum, and other areas of the country.

Clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF forces have killed thousands of people since the outbreak of the conflict in the capital, Khartoum, in April.
