 The National Labor Union (NLC) plans to launch a new long-term strike

The Federal Government has again invited the Nigerian Labor Union (NLC) to hold a meeting on the strike it is planning to do.

This was contained in a statement issued by Mr. Simon Lalong, Minister of Labor and Employment.

LEADERSHIP reported that, on September 4, Lalong invited the NLC and the National Union of Trade Unions (TUC) to hold a meeting with the aim of stopping the two-day warning strike that they started across the country.

LEADERSHIP also reported that the TUC was the only one to attend the meeting.

Lalong said he ordered the Ministry of Trade Unions and Industrial Relations to call a meeting with the leaders of the NLC on Monday.

He said that it is good for the trade unions to sit with the government to resolve all the issues before them in order to avoid further disruptions to the country's economy.

"The government of President Bola Tinubu will be involved in the trade unions and respond to their problems after consultation and discussion.

Lalong said "This is to ensure industrial equality which is very important for the development of the Leather Renewal Agenda."

Also, on September 1, the National Council of the NLC, in a statement it released, threatened to go on strike for 21 days.

LEADERSHIP reports that the NLC has asked the government to increase the minimum wage for workers to N200,000 and other demands it has put forward.
