 Togo has allowed the use of its ports to deliver aid to Niger

The Government of Togo has agreed to the United Nations to use its ports to deliver relief goods to the people of the Republic of Niger, after the Council requested this privilege from the authorities of Togo.

In the past few days, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations in charge of humanitarian operations has presented to the West African Union ECOWAS or CEDEAO the need to ease the sanctions imposed on Niger following the coup d'état by the military, which this will allow the delivery of relief materials to the people.

Sanctions are hurting Niger

In his letter to Ecowas, the official of the United Nations said that the sanctions imposed by the organization on Niger are seriously harming the weak people, therefore the measures taken by countries should not be taken, following the overthrow of the government of Mohamed Bazoum. they should not prevent the administration of aid to those in need.

Following this complaint by the United Nations, the ECOWAS group approached its member countries to hear their opinions, after being contacted, the government of Togo through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Dussey, told the president of the group, Omar Alieu Touray, that it agreed the products that will be sent to Niger will pass through the country.
