Human Trafficking: India is investigating how some of its citizens boarded a plane seized by France
India has launched an investigation into how some 303 Indians were on a chartered flight that was stopped in France last week due to suspicion of human trafficking, according to the authorities of the state of Gujarat in western India.
On Friday, the French authorities stopped the flight to Nicaragua.
The plane reportedly departed from the United Arab Emirates with 11 unaccompanied children on board, and 276 of them returned home to India on Tuesday.
Sanjay Kharat, a senior police official in Gujarat, said authorities had obtained the names and addresses of 21 people from the state who were on the plane, and investigators were trying to determine who was responsible for transporting the children.
This flight is operated by Legend Airlines of Romania.
According to reports, the company's lawyer, Liliana Bakayoko, refused to reveal the name of the person who leased the plane, due to contractual confidentiality.
