'Buhari's fake signature was used to withdraw $6.2 million from CBN'
The trial of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele continued at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where it was confirmed to the court that scientific analysis showed that the signature of the former president was forged. Muhammadu Buhari in withdrawing 6.2 million dollars to sponsor foreign observers in the country's elections.
A witness called by the EFCC, Bamaiyi Meriga confirmed to the court led by Justice Hamza Muazu that the scientific analysis of the documents - which were signed to withdraw the money - showed that the signature and seal used to withdraw the money are not the same as the real ones.
He also confirmed that the signature is not that of the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, nor that of the former Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha.
The judge presiding over the case was presented with the two documents, containing the President's order as evidence, and he approved them.
After Emefiele's lawyers expressed their complaints about the documents, the witness said that he is not an EFCC employee and he is not paid by the agency.
Emefiele's lawyer, Matthew Burkaa, objected to the testimony, saying that the witness misled the court to avoid questions.
However, the plaintiffs' lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, was not happy with the words of the defendant's lawyer.
The case was adjourned to March 1 to continue the case.
Emefiele is facing trial in court on 20 counts of bribery, collusion, breach of trust and the use of forged signatures to withdraw $6,230,000.
He is accused of using the fake signature of the former secretary to the government of Boss Mustapha to steal the money in an improper way.
