'Enugu government killed 30,000 chickens during the outbreak

A situation of fear has entered Nike neighborhood in Enugu state in southern Nigeria, after the government started demolishing people's houses to build a new city.

The owner of UD farm in Nike area, Ngozi DeDe tearfully stated that her livestock including fish and chickens worth 30 million naira were killed.

Many residents of the neighborhood complained that the government did not give them any notice about the demolition of their houses, only on Tuesday they saw that the demolition had begun.

Ngozi told the BBC that "On Tuesday, officials from the Enugu ministry attacked us and demolished my chicken house, and I was not given any notice to do so before then."

According to her, the government issued a document last year, but she was told that she was not among those who would be affected, so my chicken house was demolished."

Ngozi Dede said that 30,000 chickens and 1,000 fish were killed in three chicken houses and two workers' houses were destroyed.

During the destruction by the government, it affected about 50 houses.

The Enugu state government has signed a document to build a new city in Nike area.

However, at the time of writing this report, the Enugu government has not yet responded to the BBC's messages on this matter.
