 Ghana Celebrates Independence Day

Today, Ghana celebrates its 67th anniversary of independence from British colonialism.

ACCRA, GHANA - The country gained independence after 83 years of British rule, and was the first country to gain independence from sub-Saharan Africa.

The theme of this year's festival, "Our Democracy, Our Pride", focuses on strengthening democratic values and creating peace, especially in light of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024.

The President of Ivory Coast, Alhassan Ouattara, is the chief guest of the ceremony.
