The Edo National Assembly has started planning to impeach Shaibu

The Edo State House of Assembly in southern Nigeria has started an attempt to impeach the deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu.

This was announced in the parliament on Wednesday, where information shows that the initiative was supported by 21 out of 24 members of parliament.

On Tuesday, a complaint was filed against the deputy governor, where he is accused of perjury and revealing some secret matters of the state government.

Channels media quoted the leader of the majority in the parliament as saying that the number of those who supported the impeachment of the deputy governor reached the two-thirds required, as stipulated in the constitution.

The Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku gave the Clerk of the House and handed over the impeachment notice to Shaibu.

The relationship between the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy has been strained recently.
