The Senegalese parliament approved Sall's amnesty plan for the opposition
The members of the Senegalese Parliament approved the amnesty bill for the country's political prisoners that President Macky Sall presented to them despite the issues surrounding the bill which caused division in the National Assembly.
After a long debate on Tuesday and Wednesday, 94 members of parliament supported the bill while 49 challenged it.
Before this debate, on Tuesday, the Parliament rejected the bill which it said was not the solution to the situation in Senegal.
President Macky Sall wants to use the amnesty program to calm the political crisis in Senegal, which will lead to the release of many political prisoners.
The amnesty program will also provide for the release of even thousands of supporters of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko who have been leading various protests since the beginning of the opposition's conflict with President Sall.
