The United States has imposed new sanctions on the president of Zimbabwe
The United States has imposed new sanctions on the president of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa for bribery and human rights violations.
The new sanctions also include some high-ranking officials of the country's government - who are prohibited from touching their assets in the United States and are prohibited from making personal visits to the country.
The new sanctions replace those imposed on Zimbabwe about 20 years ago.
"We continue to see the violation of his citizenship and other economic and human rights." According to a statement from the White House.
"Civil groups are being attacked and their citizens are being prevented from living, by violating their fundamental rights to welfare, while senior government officials continue to steal money from the government for their own benefit," according to the statement.
"Their evil actions are helping and supporting the big gangs who commit major international crimes of bribery, smuggling, money laundering that are increasingly affecting the people of Zimbabwe, South Africa and other parts of the world."
