There was confusion after the killing of an imam in Zamfara

The people of Mada town in Gusau in Zamfara state are in a situation after hearing the news of the death of the Imam of the town mosque, Abubakar Hassan Mada.

Some residents of the town told the BBC that the body of the imam was found after some people wearing the uniforms of the new state security forces took him away on Tuesday.

However, after some time, the teacher's body was found after being slaughtered.

One of the residents of Mada town told the BBC that "Yesterday evening after the noon prayer, some people dressed like Asakara came in. We were told that they were from Tsafe area, they met the Asakara of Mada, and they showed to the house of Imam Abubakar Hassan Mada,"

He added, "After they took him outside the city, they stopped and slaughtered him."

The second person interviewed by the BBC, who is also a resident of Mada, said: "They came and took him away laughing and laughing. We didn't think anything bad would happen to him".

We started the investigation - Commander of Askarawa

However, on their part, the Zamfara Police Force told the BBC that they are investigating the killing of the teacher.

In his conversation with the BBC, the commander of the Zamfara Army, Colonel Rabiu Yandoto, who resigned, said that by Wednesday morning, the agency had started an investigation into the matter.

According to him: "We have gathered all the soldiers of Mada region to investigate the killing of the imam."

However, he explained to the BBC that the law does not allow a criminal to take the law into his own hands, even if he arrests a suspect.

Mada is one of the areas of Zamfara state that are suffering from the problem of bandits who kill and kidnap people for ransom.
