We have no intention of interfering in Nigeria's democracy - General Lagbaja

The Chief of Army Staff in Nigeria, General Taoreed Lagbaja emphasized the determination of the army to protect the dignity of the country's democracy.

Briefing the participants on the work organized by the command headquarters in Abuja, General Lagbaja said that the command has no intention of conspiring against the country's democracy.

He called on the country's soldiers to continue to give their efforts in carrying out their duties.

The promise made by General Lagbaja comes as a result of the attempts to overthrow the government in the West and Central African region that have experienced at least seven coups in the past four years.

Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso and most recently Niger - all ECOWAS members have left the group in the last four years.

Chad and Sudan, which are not part of the West African region, also face coups in 2021.
