 Remi Tinubu donates N1bn, rice, shoes to Niger disaster victims

Through her Renewed Hope Initiative, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has given N1 billion and other aid to people who have been affected by several catastrophes. Remi on the river 

During the symbolic presentation in Minna on Tuesday, Mrs. Tinubu noted that the visit was meant to express her condolences to the state government and people for the terrible Mokwa flood disaster that killed many people and forced many families to leave their homes.


She told the people who were hurt that she understood how they felt by adding, "As a mother, I share in your pain and grief, and I believe we can all get through this tragedy."

The first lady thanked President Bola Tinubu for acting quickly after the disaster, especially for allowing flood relief materials to be sent right away and for rebuilding the homes that were damaged.

She said that the donation, which included N1 billion, 2,000 bags of 50kg rice, and shoes, was meant to directly help the individuals who were affected.
She remarked, "The strength of a nation lies in its compassion, and in times like this, we all must be our brothers' keepers."

The president's wife also said that the Governing Council of Renewed Hope Initiative and the Tony Elumelu Foundation had authorised an economic empowerment program to help 500 women.

Umaru Bago, the Governor of Niger, praised the First Lady for coming to visit after the state had been hit by several calamities.

Bago talked on how Niger's topography is different from other states. For example, it is the only riverine state with tributaries of the River Niger and the Kaduna River, which makes it more likely to flood.

He thanked the first lady for her work and said that the renewed hope project has changed the lives of many people in the country.

"The love and understanding you show are examples of the kind of leadership we have in this country." "Keep going in the right direction," he added.

The governor added that the state has gotten N1 billion in relief for the victims, as well as 2,000 bags of rice, 16,000 wrappers, and more than 100 pairs of shoes.
Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the Niger Government, said in his welcoming speech that Mrs. Tinubu's visit showed that she really cares about the well-being of Nigerians, especially women, young people, and those who are weak.

"This project says a lot about her vision for a more inclusive and resilient Nigeria. The humanitarian aid gives people both material and emotional support," he said.
