ASUU declares a complete two-week strike
On Sunday, Academic Staff Union of Universities declared a two-week warning strike that would be effective to all the Nigerian public universities.
The announcement was made by Prof. Chris Piwuna, the National President of the Union at a press conference in the University of Abuja in Abuja on Sunday.
Needless to say, fellow pressmen, there is no given decree to curb the success of the ASUU-NEC to proceed to have a two-week warning strike by the expiry of the 14-day notice it gave me on September 28, 2025.
Thus, it is hereby required that all ASUU branches should shut down by the end of midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.
The warning strike would be total and comprehensive, as determined in the last NEC meeting, said Piwuna.
Although there are ongoing negotiations to avert another wave of industrial action in institutions of higher learning in the country, the recent stalemate between the university professors and the Federal Government has taken place.
On Wednesday, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, announced in Abuja that the government started the final round of negotiations with ASUU and other unions to resolve the outstanding differences on funding, welfare and implementation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement. Alausa noted that the Tinubu administration had already achieved a lot through allocating N50 billion to pay Earned Academic Allowances and another N150 billion to needs assessment that will be paid in three instalments.
