Hocus Pocus actor reveals costar Omri Katz got him high on set: 'I was a mess' (exclusive)
Katz had told EW that he was "having a good old time" while making the movie while smoking weed, but Tobias Jelinek didn't have quite the same time.Omari Katz and Tobias Jelinek, who played the lead roles in the original movie, say that the Black Flame Candle wasn't the only thing that lit up on the set of Hocus Pocus.
Katz told Entertainment Weekly in a 2022 interview that he was often high while filming the 1993 Disney classic about three resurrected witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) who terrorise a group of young people in Salem (Katz, Vinessa Shaw, and Thora Birch). Now, another star, Jelinek, tells EW that he smoked out with Katz, but only once.
As Jay, a supporting character, a bully who fights with Katz's Max at the beginning of the movie along with actor Larry Bagby's Ice, Jelinek remembers Katz trying to get him high before a practice for a key scene directed by Kenny Ortega."It was the pumpkin-smashing scene," Jelinek says of a scene that happens outside on Halloween night in a suburban Salem neighbourhood. "Little Thora Birch was in there with us, probably wondering what's going on with these teenagers."
