Rajoelina, the president of Madagascar, is reported to have been on the run as the army protests against him under the leadership of Gen Z.
Certain sections of the military are crossing sides as Gen Z protesters are shaking the nation and the President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, is reported to have fled the nation.
President Trump was to address the nation on Monday night, however, he had to cancel his address twice after news broke that soldiers were preparing to seize control of the state TV station.
According to Reuters, Rajoelina has not been seen out in public since Wednesday, this has raised much speculation where he is.
The opposition leader Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko stated that Rajoelina fled the nation on Sunday following a number of army units that joined the demonstrations. Randrianasolonio informed Reuters that he had contacted the presidential staff and they affirmed that he was out of the country. RFI reported that the president departed on a military aircraft in France and a military official indicated that he had previously arranged with the French President Emmanuel Macron.
Rajoelina had said before he was supposed to have left that there were sections of the military who were plotting a coup as they had joined the demonstrations organized by the youth. Shortly after this, a military group of people named CAPSAT claimed to have assumed control of the military leadership in the country.
Little demonstrations on the water and power shortages have become a national movement against frauds, joblessness and the escalating cost of living.
The riot, which has been dubbed as Gen Z Madagascar, has extended to various towns. UN estimates that at least 22 people have died, but the government says it is inaccurate.
