IS claimed responsibility for the attack on a church in Burkina Faso

IS claimed responsibility for the February 25 attack on a church in Burkina Faso that killed at least 15 people.

IS claimed on March 7 in its al-Naba newspaper which describes the group's recent activities in the Sahel region.

She said IS fighters armed with a gun attacked a church in the village of Essakane in Oudalan Province near the border with Mali, interrupting a prayer meeting on Sunday.

The group said that "when the members of the group entered the church, they opened fire on the Christians and killed more than 15 of them."

The IS group often attacks Christians and their places of worship in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique, where it has branches. Such attacks by IS in Burkina Faso are unusual. The IS attacks there are affecting the military.

On the day of the attack on the church, unknown assailants attacked a mosque in the eastern part of Burkina Faso in the town of Natiaboani, killing dozens of people.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, except for al-Qaeda, which is linked to IS, and claimed responsibility for the attack on the soldiers in the town that day.
