How the Court Session to Challenge Bola Tinubu's Success Was in Abuja
The second day of the hearing of the cases related to the presidential election in Nigeria has entered.
The court of appeals sitting in Abuja, the capital of the country, heard lawyers from the opposition party PDP and its candidate and the opposition party APM.
The parties are challenging the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling APC in the election.
The election hearing court which sat under five judges headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani started hearing the case filed by the opposition party APM in the preparatory session of the hearing it held today Tuesday.
The APM party told the court that it has provided all the required information and answers in the "FORM TF 008" pre-hearing information sheet.
While the lawyers of those who are suing, namely the National Electoral Commission INEC and the ruling APC party and its candidate and deputy, Kashim Shettima and Ibrahim Kabiru Masari also stated that they have responded to the questions related to the case.
However, Bola Ahmed Tinubu's lawyer told the court that he filed a motion seeking to dismiss the case filed by the APM party, due to lack of power.
Where the defendant's lawyers also requested the court to dismiss the case.
The APM party is challenging Bola Tinubu's victory because of electoral fraud and violence during the election.
But the judge, Tsammani ordered all the parties to go and combine their issues and needs in one place to listen to them in the next session.
Today is Tuesday and the court heard the case filed by the PDP party and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, after returning from a short break.
PDP and Atiku are asking the court to declare Alhaji Atiku as the winner of the election or to go for a second round election between him and Bola Tinubu or to cancel the election altogether and start a new one.
They claimed that Tinubu did not get the majority of votes and was not eligible to stand as a candidate when the election was held.
However, the lawyer of the acting president filed a motion to dismiss the case, Judge Tsammani said that the court will consider this motion in the next session.
It will also look at the request filed by the lawyers of the former vice president from the beginning asking for the live broadcast of the court session.
Both cases have been adjourned by the court until next Thursday, which is the 11th of May.
