 AAUW Scholarship Application for 2023

Through projects aimed at encouraging girls to choose the physical sciences or engineering as a career before entering college, Community Action Grants provide funding to individuals, AAUW branches, AAUW state organizations, as well as community-based nonprofits, for innovative programmes that promote education and equity.

AAUW has supported hundreds of communities around the country since 1972.

.Eligibility for Scholarships

1. Applicants must be either individuals, AAUW branches, AAUW state organisations, or regional nonprofits (including universities).

2. The suggested activity must directly encourage girls to choose engineering or the physical sciences as a career before entering college.

3. The United States or one of its territories must be the home country of nonprofit organisations and universities.

4. Businesses and universities alike must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status is required for AAUW chapter and state applicants.

The term "assignment" refers to the act of submitting a request for a quote from a client.

6. The executive director of the organisation must have approved and signed proposals from neighbourhood nonprofits.

7. Previous Community Action Grant grantees are not permitted to apply for the same grant twice and must wait three application cycles before doing so.

8. AAUW employees, including current interns, are not eligible to apply for fellowships or grants from the organisation. This includes members of the board of directors, committees, panels, task forces, and staff. A person with a current award is eligible to be elected or appointed to task groups, committees, and boards.

Application and Selection Criteria

Once a year, the panel meets to discuss grant applications. The following set of criteria is used to determine awards. AAUW must provide final approval to the panel's recommendations. According to the funds available in a certain fiscal year, grants are awarded competitively.

1. AAUW refrains from commenting on the award committees' decisions in order to maintain an impartial evaluation process. Neither a written nor an oral review of applicants is offered by AAUW. There are no provisions for the review of grant bids. Applications and supplemental materials do not get returned or kept for another year; they become the exclusive property of AAUW.

2. The following conditions apply to Community Action Grants:

3. The proposed project's relevance to the AAUW's goal and its potential to directly influence how many girls choose to pursue careers in engineering or the physical sciences before they graduate from college.

4 Rationale for the project is strong since it addresses a clear, verified local need.

5. Project design clarity and originality – the project has (1) clear and defined outcomes and (2) is creative and/or unique in how it goes about obtaining those outcomes.

6. Project sustainability and impact — the project (1) reaches underserved audiences, (2) forges relationships with diverse people and organisations, (3) has potential for AAUW branch or state involvement, (4) has potential for long-term impact, and (5) has potential for long-term sustainability after the grant period.

7. Project feasibility — (1) proposed activities will logically lead to desired results or the accomplishment of goals, (2) project timeline is realistic, (3) budget is sufficient and expenses are justified in budget narrative, (4) adequate support from collaborative organisations and community partners, (5) project director is qualified to direct the project, and if an AAUW branch, AAUW state, or nonprofit applicant, the organisation has the capacity to carry out the project.

8. Strength of the assessment plan — (1) specific evaluation methods are offered to measure short-, medium-, and long-term results; (2) proposed evaluation methods are reasonable measures of predicted outcomes; and (3) resources are adequate to support the proposed methods.

Regulations for scholarships

Funds are available for a variety of project-related expense types, including but not restricted to:

1. Shipping, mailing, and postage.

2. Photocopying and copying.

3. Business supplies.

4. Media on the screen.

5. Phone costs associated with the project.

6. Professional fees or honoraria for special consultants or speakers.

7. Investments in machinery.

8. Meals, refreshments, or accommodations for camps or associated activities.

9. Hourly temporary clerical assistance.

10 Facility leases (excluding those for permanent office space).

11. Publicity, graphic design, and advertising.

12. Transportation (should not account for more than one-third of the grant request; car expenses are $0.545 per mile).

The following expenses cannot be covered by funds:

1. Compensation or stipends for permanent posts or project directors.

2. Tuition.

3. Awards for participants and students to attend higher education.

4. Construction, remodelling, or building funds.

5. Travel costs for actions outside the project's purview.

The cost of the organization's overhead and regular operational expenses is the same for everyone.

7. Personal costs, housing, or life, health, and medical insurance.

8. Previous investments, losses, or loans.

9. Making grants or giving them to other organisations.

AAUW views the receipt of a grant as a contract requiring the following conditions to be met:

12. A contract accepting the award must be signed by all grant recipients. Keep these guidelines in mind since, if the application is awarded a grant, they will be incorporated into the grant agreement.

13. Grant awards are split into two equal installments, the first at the start and the second at the middle of the grant period.

14. The Community Action Grant project director must have a proactive leadership role in managing the project's editorial, financial, and programmatic responsibilities.

15. Neither the project director's employer nor the funds from the Community Action Grant may be used to pay the project director for work on the project.

16. A project may only be awarded once. After three application cycles, former Community Action Grantees may suggest new projects for future grants, but they cannot reapply for the same initiative for which they previously received funds.

17. A candidate may apply to multiple AAUW grant or fellowship programmes at once if they are eligible. The applicant's name is on the list of those who will be receiving the award.

18. Grant projects are not allowed to support a specific political candidate or party or attempt to sway recent or pending legislation.

19. Grant-related projects cannot be sectarian and cannot aim to advance a specific religion or denomination.
