Cholera killed 9 people in Ethiopia

The health authorities in Ethiopia said that 9 people died as a result of an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhea in the Benishangul-Gumuz area in the north-west of the country as reported by ETV last Sunday.

A local health official, Abdulmunhem Al-Beshir, said "131 people have been infected and 9 have died," ETV reported.

The outbreak of the disease was found in three districts, according to the Benishangul-Gumuz Health Authority.

Meanwhile, the outbreak of cholera also killed 9 Sudanese refugees in the Amhara region in the northwest of Ethiopia.

Local media said the cholera epidemic spread in 11 regions of the country last year, killing 320 people.

The two-year civil war has led to a severe humanitarian crisis in the region
