Hong Kong activists have been jailed for six years for plotting a terrorist attack
Three Hong Kong activists have been sentenced to six years in prison for their involvement in a foiled attack on government buildings.
The three men were initially charged with "conspiracy to commit terrorism" under the National Security Act.
They are among the members of the Returning Vailant group that made the situation in 2021 after the pro-democracy protests.
They were arrested in July 2021, before they could carry out their decision.
The court received information that Ho Yu-wang, Kwok Man-hei and Cheung Ho-yeung planned to assemble bombs using the explosive TATP and planted them in several government buildings including government offices and offices Police, courts and railway stations.
They intended to carry out their plan between April 1 and July 5, 2021 but were caught before they could assemble the bombs, the court heard.
Prosecutors said Ho, who was 17 at the time of his involvement, was "responsible for assembling the explosives".
He pleaded guilty to terrorism charges and was sentenced to six years in prison and the court declared him the leader of the group.
Cheng, 23, was also sentenced to six years in prison while Kwok, 21, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. All of them pleaded guilty to "conspiring to make explosives".
High Court Judge Alex Lee said he accepted that the frustrations experienced during the pro-democracy rally could turn their minds into riots, according to a Reuters report.
In May, four people were sentenced for their involvement.
