 The United Nations released a report on human rights violations in the West Bank

The United Nations has demanded that Israel end what it calls "unlawful killings" of Palestinians in the West Bank and the Jordan River.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said he was deeply concerned by the tactics used by the country's military, the use of force and restrictions on movement.

The report, which was released today, also accused Israel of committing:

Arrests and detentions and reports of torture and other abuses by Israeli forces have raised concerns about impunity.

An increase in attacks by armed settlers, which often drives large numbers of Palestinians from their cities

Make a difference in restricting traffic, which affects the daily life and the economy of the people of the region.

Speaking about the report, Volker Turk said the findings were "extremely disturbing", and that while human rights violations during wartime are not new, "the severity of the violence and the levels of repression, it is something that has not been seen in recent years." Israel did not immediately respond to the report.

Israel says that its operations in the West Bank and the Jordan River are aimed at preventing and controlling security threats.
