The UN has called for a ceasefire in Sudan due to Ramadan

The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan.

After at least a year of fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF fighters, Mr. Guterres demanded a ceasefire for the month of Ramadan.

His call comes as the United Nations Security Council is discussing a ceasefire in order to be able to bring aid supplies directly to the region.

There is a possibility that a vote will be taken on the issue today Friday.

The Secretary General of the United Nations has warned that the continuation of the war will put Sudan in a dire situation in need of humanitarian services which will affect many things in the country.

At least 14,000 people have been killed since the war began

A Kuriga school student who was shot dead by bandits during the abduction of school students in Kaduna state has died.

The 14-year-old student was hospitalized on Thursday after gunmen shot him.

Armed assailants on motorbikes surrounded the school and kidnapped 287 students, aged between eight and 15.

A teacher at the school said that 25 students escaped from the hands of the attackers when they were driving them to the forest, but the rest of the students are still in their hands.

Residents of Kuriga town said that the incident affected almost the whole community of the town.

A man named Hassan Abdullahi told Reuters that 17 of the kidnapped students were his children.
