Return APC chairmanship to north-central, forum tells Tinubu ahead of NEC meeting

The North-Central All Progressives Congress ( NC APC ), Forum has called upon the President Bola Tinubu and the party leading organ to observe fairness by returning the position of APC National Chairman to the North-Central region, before the next meeting of National Executive Committee ( NECC ) scheduled to hold on Thursday, June 24, 2025.

Extension of the stay of the then Acting Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori who was the Borno State Deputy National Chairman (North) when the then Chairman Dr Abdullahi Ganduje had to step down was also strongly opposed within the Forum.

On Tuesday, in a statement by Forum Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, whose former position was that of a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 elections, said that putting the chairmanship back to the North-Central was not only fair, but also something that rhymed with the set out zoning rules of the party.

According to the Forum, leaving out the North-Central was a political betrayal, as the zone had enjoyed the slot in the past through Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who had been elevated as the National Chairman in 2022 but he stepped aside before completing his term.

The Forum, refuting fears that the change of a leadership would destabilise the party, asserted that maintaining the original structure of zoning would in fact foster unity and foster trust within the party members which would be very important in the lead up to an election year.

Dissensions on what should be a proper zone to take the chairmanship started again after Abdullahi Ganduje received the resignation offer on June 27.  The North-Central Forum has reiterated that the region must first serve its term before they look into the possibility of rotating it to the other region.

We have nothing against anybody; we do have in support of fairness.  This is a zone that belongs to us and doing this is the rightful thing to do so that the stability of our party and the trust of our local supporters can be achieved," Zazzaga added.

The North-Central Forum has put up more political heat on both the presidency and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to guarantee more fair representation and a regional balance in the top leadership organ of the party ahead of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated to take place on Thursday.

With the National Executive Committee of our great party to hold on the 21 st of December Thursday, we the North-Central APC Forum are calling on president Bola Tinubu and other party leaders to do the right thing and ensure that the national Chairman goes back to the North-Central.

Such decision in other directions will be regarded as the betrayal.  Without upholding justice and equity, the stakeholders in the North-Central region will be very disappointed in the NEC.

The North-Central also gave President Tinubu and APC the third highest amount of votes in the 2023 presidential elections, only behind the South-West and North-West.

During the presidential race, the APC received 1,760,993 votes (41.3 percent) in the North-Central compared to those 1,415,557 (33.2 percent) of the Labour Party and 1,025,178 (24.1 percent) of PDP.

According to him, the North-Central has a right to give the APC National Chairman because of the roles that the region has played in the party.
